Th1rteen R3asons

               The book Thirteen Reasons Why is about a girl named Hannah Baker.  Hannah leaves behind a set of 13 audio tapes saying the 13 reasons why she comitted suicide.  Each of these reasons has to do with one person.  The tapes are passed through each of the thirteen people in chronological order of when they show up in the tapes.  The book is told from the point of view of a boy named Clay who is the seventh reason.  However, she says that he doesn't belong on the list.  The seventh thing is that she wronged him.  In the end though, the final reason is that even when she turned to a teacher, he didn't help.
                The thing that most people do not realize is how many people commit  suicide.  In the United States, someone comits suicide every 14.2 minutes.  Over one million people try to commit suicide every year as well.  The amount that people commit suicide is too high in America and one of the only things that most need, is help.  All that you  have to do is lend a hand to anyone that has seemed to have ideas that there is no reason to live.  There are some simple ways to help like making them think about what is being left behind or telling them reasons to live.  It is nerve racking to think that so many die by their own hand when all they needed was help.
               One of the main causes of suicide is bullying.   Most don't pay enough attention to themselves to realize that they are doing it though.  Alot of people go too far without realizing it. Too often, one comment can influence someone to end their life.  There is a fine line between playing around and being mean.  There is also a line between helping and watching.  In the book, alot of people just watched Hannah deteriorate into someone that was sad and alone.  All that people need to do is be aware and the rate of suicide would drop.
