X-23

           Recently, I critically read a comic called X-23: Innocence Lost.  It is about a clone of the superhero Wolverine.  She was made to be a killing machine.  Her "mother" wants to raise her like a human being but those higher up than her stop this.  A major problem in this is that  X-23's childhood is torn away from her. 
     
           In this, there are many who try to make Laura(X-23) a child.  Her "mother" sneaks reading her stories every night.  The man that teaches her how to do martial arts encourages her and treats her like a kid that needs a parent.  Immediateley, this is stopped.  The people that are high up just use Laura to kill for their benefits.
 
           When Laura is killing, she doesn't even know that it happens.  She slaughters day after day after smelling a trigger scent.  This is a child.  Powers don't really mean anything.  No matter what, a childhood was killed for some other peoples personal gain. Once she is taken away from this enviroment, she is a cold person.  There is no imagination in her, no hope.  She is nothing but a shell.  After a while though, Laura begins to become more of a person.  After meeting Wolverine, she is taken under his wing.

            Currentley in comics, Laura is still trying to find out who she is as a person.  From the day she was born, Laura was made to be a killer and now she is finding herself.  She no longer has people making her do things and while this freedom is liberating, it is also difficult.  To become your own person and discover yourself is difficult, especially when you haven't had freedom before.   This comic shows exactley what coming of age is.  The struggle of coming to terms with life as it currently is and life as it will  be.
